About the Church of ChristThe Church of Christ was built and purchased by Jesus Christ, established on the day of Pentecost after His resurrection. (Acts 2, 20:28). It is the most important institution in the world! Therefore, in addition to our warm welcome, at Georgia Avenue you will find the gospel being preached in truth and a dedicated body of people who worship God as He has commanded in His inspired word. We believe in continual and systematic Bible study, obedience to God's will, and distinctive godly living. (2 Tim. 2:15; Matt. 7:21; Rom. 12:1-2). In other words, we seek to be the church that you read about in the New Testament, nothing more or less. We welcome you to our website and stand ready to welcome you into our assembly whenever you are able to join us. If you are new in our community, we want you to know that there is a place for you here at the Georgia Avenue Church of Christ. About Our Guide in:Religion | The Church Jesus Built | How People Are Saved | Chrisitan Fellowship From The Minister's DeskHOW OFTEN SHOULD I PRAY? Prayer is absolutely essential to every Christian’s spiritual development and walk with God. Indeed, it is a special mode of communication that the Father has reserved for His children. “Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth His will, him He heareth” (Jn. 9:31; 1 Pet. 3:12). While God ignores the prayers of the unrighteous, He truly delights in the prayers of those who are upright before Him (Prov. 15:8). This alone is reason enough for the child of God to continue steadfastly in prayer as members did in the infancy of the church (Acts 2:42). In terms of frequency, the child of God ought to pray without ceasing (1 Thes. 5:17). Indeed, the apostles and first century Christians prayed on a continual basis (Acts 2:42, 6:4), and we are encouraged to do the same (Col. 4:2). Based on biblical examples, it will be pleasing to the Lord if stop what we are doing to pray at least three times daily. For example, King David declared in Psalm 55:17 that he would pray morning, noon and night, and God describes David as a man after his own heart (Acts 13:22; 1 Sam. 13:14). Also, the prophet Daniel customarily prayed three times each day (Dan. 6:10), and the Bible describes him as having an “excellent spirit” (Dan. 5:12, 6:3). Every Christian would do well to follow these examples. In addition to these three private, individual, daily prayers, the Bible provides examples of other occasions when Christians ought to pray. For example, it is appropriate to pray before parting company with other Christians (Acts 20:36-38, 21:5), before reading and studying the Bible (cf. Col. 1:9-10; Jam.1:5), and before eating (Mt. 6:11, 14:17-21, 15:32-38; Lk. 11:3, 24:30).
