Ministries

Evangelism Ministry
The primary tasks of each individual Christian are maintaining a right relationship with the Father and helping others to establish the same by carrying the gospel to those who are lost in sin. Matt. 28:19-20, Mark 16:15-16; 2 Cor. 5:18-20.

Benevolence Ministry
The benevolence committee is responsible for accomplishing the following:
- Determining appropriate level of financial support for members of the congregation with demonstrated needs.
- Carrying out the Great Commission by caring for non-members' material needs while modeling and teaching Christ.
- Coordinating referral programs that utilize services of district or federal government agencies.

“He who is gracious to a poor man lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his good deed.” Proverbs 19:17

Education Ministry
The Georgia Avenue Church of Christ strives to provide an education, which is disciplined and creative, intellectual and moral- an education firmly rooted in the word of God. Our program is designed to encourage the active participation and involvement of the student in the learning process. Rather than receiving rote knowledge passively, each student must actively engage themselves through critical thinking skills, analysis, and discovery.

Men's Ministry
To glorify God through service to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and His church by providing an environment to encourage and support men as leaders in the body of Christ, their households, workplaces and communities.

Women's Ministry
To support, enhance, encourage and edify all sisters through fellowshipping and adhering to the Word of God. We strive to strengthen our relationship with Christ by learning how to be effective servants of God in our many roles as mothers, wives and Christian women in God's kingdom.

Marriage Ministry
To equip married couples with practical Bible based principals and tools so that each couple is able to enjoy abundance and true intimacy in their marriage and bring glory to God by being a reflection of Christ and His Bride, the Church.

Singles' Ministry
(1) To provide a spiritual network for like-minded single Christians; (2) to build relationships in Christ in order to edify the body; (3) to address specific issues that those who are single in the Church of Christ are facing on a daily basis; (4) to foster spiritual maturity and growth of single members.

Youth Ministry
To strengthen the youth in their Christian responsibilities through structured activities and bible studies with faithful adult Christians to insure that they stand firm on the word of God, always putting God first, evangelizing to bring others to Christ, and being good examples in word and deed.”

College Ministry
(1) To encourage college students to evangelize while maintaining a consistent relationship with the Lord as they advance academically; (2) to encourage the students to live a life committed to seeking and following Christ in all they do; (3) to keep the students connected one to another; (4) to provide a relaxed atmosphere conducive to learning spiritually and academically; and (5) to provide the necessities (love, encouragement and food) of college life while the students are away from home.

Life Lines Ministry
This ministry is designed primarily to reach out to and to edify members who are consistently not in attendance or who are considered as unfaithful. This criteria is set based on 2 weeks of consecutive absence from services and or weekly bible studies without knowledge of membership status, intent to travel or any other reason that would impact a members ability to attend service regularly.

The Eye of the Camera
written by Gene Cooper

Most of us own a camera of some type. Some are automatic. Many are digital today. Others are manually operated. Still others have a blend of the two. When you wish to set the focus, aperture, modes, and other features you set a button and a certain feature is enabled or disabled. Our Christian life should resemble a camera in operation. When we wish to emulate Jesus, (which should be all times) we should be sitting on automatic. “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of GOD, who loved me, and gave Himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20).

When you point that camera at a subject and press the shutter button, you get what you see. We are pointing to something as we walk through this life. We are either pointing towards heaven or towards hell. What we see is often what rubs off on us. We need to make sure that it affects us for good. Notice what the bible says about Lot: For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;” (2 Peter 2:8) Lot was tormented by the wickedness all around him. Are we? Do we seek the things which build us up or those that tear us down?

My camera started acting up on vacation and I took it to the camera shop. They tested it and said the battery was weak. What had been happening was that the battery had set up and strengthened while not in use. After repeated use, it became drained and lost power. I replaced the battery and placed a test roll in the camera, and it was now as good as new. Our lives often go in the same pattern. When we test our Christian walk according to the world's standards, we often hear, “No problem”. When compared to Bible standards, we find a serious problem. “Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,” (2 Peter 3:11 )

Blockers or Knockers...
written by Gene Cooper

No one is more essential to the offense of a football team than the blocker. The front-line men are the backbone of the whole offense and if they fail at their job, the team will never score any points. The fancy-footed back can be shifty, swivel-hipped and fast as greased lightning but he will never be able to display his skills if the blockers fail.

There is a great need for members in congregations everywhere who will “dig in,” put their shoulders to the tasks before them and work hard. This requires steadfastness and trustworthiness – workers who are not so concerned about who gets the attention and glory as they are that the work is done. I really suspect that we have too many quarterbacks in most congregations – brethren who like to call the plays but who don't want to get their jerseys a little soiled.

I think I have known some blockers who, when missing their blocks, became knockers – they adamantly affirm that it really wasn't their fault that they failed their assignment so it must have been the quarterback's fault for calling the wrong play. So, they grip and complain and point fingers at teammates in order to cover up their failures. When the time comes that players quit blocking and start knocking, the moral of the whole team is affected. And, nothing affects team unity and spirit more than the knocker does.

Sometimes, Christians begin looking for things about which they can knock. “The other members are not what they should be.” “That person didn't speak to me.” “That church up there is not as loving as it should be.” “Those people are unfriendly.” “Those elders are not doing their job properly.” “The preacher's lessons are too long and too hard to understand.” Such complaints immediately convey a divisive spirit, because one is differentiating between the church and self – we should always see the church as “us” and not “them versus us.” Knockers are essentially divisive and destructive to the morale and work of the group. Every Christian should be prepared and committed to doing whatever needs to be done. The battles can be difficult but the blockers and not the knockers determine the final, eternal outcome. – Written by: Jim R. Everett, from Cedar Park Church of Christ.
